The Hayloft, Kemps Farm, Lorna Doone Valley, Exmoor, Devon

The Hayloft offers luxury en-suite self catering holiday cottage accommodation for up to 4 people set within its own combe in Lorna Doone country at the heart of Exmoor National Park on the Somerset Devon border. Kemps Farm is completely private and secluded yet is only one mile from the most beautiful coastline in England and close to both Lynton and Porlock. The Hayloft offers total seclusion from the outside world and if you truly want to get away from the madding crowd then this is the place for you.

A very warm welcome to the website of The Hayloft at Kemps Farm.

Locally there are some of the most breathtaking walks in the Country with the longest stretch of native coastal woodland and the highest sea cliffs in England! Exmoor is one of the most varied National Parks with heather clad moorland, deep wooded combes and fast running trout and salmon streams.

The Hayloft has just undergone a thorough refurbishment to provide luxury accommodation on one level. The front door opens into a generous boot room with limestone slab flooring, utility area with washing machine, tumble dryer and ample space for coats and shoes. Directly adjacent is the fully fitted kitchen with dining table and chairs, again with limestone slab floors and granite worktops. Pure water is provided directly from our own spring and beats any bottled water hands down - enjoy!

From the kitchen a door leads into the wonderful living room complete with wood burning stove and double aspect windows overlooking some of the most stunning scenery on Exmoor. A 40 inch flat screen Sony HD TV with freeview is provided together with a DVD player and Ipod docking station. Two luxurious leather sofas, solid oak flooring and soft rugs complete the picture.

The two double bedrooms benefit from wrought iron double and king size beds with pocketsprung mattresses, solid oak flooring, ample storage and separate en-suite luxury bathrooms complete with limestone slab flooring, baths and power showers with complimentary fluffy white towels - perfect for relaxing after a long walk on Exmoor!

While spring, summer and autumn are amazing times to visit, in a strange way winter on Exmoor is the most unique; remote, unspoilt and the perfect place for a romantic getaway for two.

Outside, in summer, a table and 4 chairs together with a Weber Barbeque sit under the boughs of a gigantic beech tree while a path leads down to the level parking area via six steps. Kemps Farm is 300 metres from the lane and sits in its own unique valley (or Combe as they are known locally) with no noise or light pollution. Locally we are about five minute's walk from Oare Church, made famous in the Lorna Doone romance. The nearest pub is the Staghunters at Brendon although there is a seasonal tea room closer by at Malmsmead operated by the famous team from "Andrews on the Weir" at Porlock Weir.

The Hayloft is now ready to welcome guests. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

My house crouches in a combe

Sheltered from the slashing rain

Of Winter, and the black rags

Of the Atlantic cloud touch

And enfold the hill-tops in a wet embrace.

and when Summer comes, and June

Days; Ah! then the luminous green

Of the beech and oak surround me

And the glade becomes golden green light

Amidst the tracery of leaves.
